Design of the new Wheel Lathe building at Reading Train Care Depot. The commission was from GRIP 4, Single Option Development, through to GRIP 8, Project Close Out.

Upminster London Underground Depot

Client: Jacobs
Design Stages: Scheme & Detailed Design

Upminster depot serves London Underground’s District Line. Existing buildings are extended and reconfigured to service new, longer, S7 rolling stock, including stabling for 42 trains. The upgraded buildings provide fewer roads but enhanced maintenance, spares storage and staff facilities. The project includes an extension to the Lifting Shed and a new Training and Administration building.

Ealing Common London Underground Depot

Remodelling and upgrade of an operational London Underground depot to service new, longer, S7 trains. There is stabling, casualty maintenance and cleaning for 32 trains, swimming pool inspection pits, as well as modifications to signalling, mechanical and electrical services. The development includes alterations to a Wheel Lathe Building and BTUK accommodation

Reading Train Depot

Red Cow Depot, Metro West, Ireland

Client: Transport Infrastructure Ireland (RPA)
Design Stages: Concept Design

Red Cow is the location of the Luas Red Line depot, as well as a Red Line stop. JSA undertook a feasibility study to incorporate a Metro West depot on the site of the existing Red Line Park and Ride facility, which would be re-housed in a two/three level parking structure constructed above the stabling area. The project also included speculative office space and retail units to serve the significant numbers of commuters using this stop.

Kim Chuan Depot & Control Centre, Singapore MRT

Design of Singapore’s Kim Chuan Depot, the world's largest underground depot. It provides maintenance and stabling for 77 trains, as well as the main Operation Control Centre for the MRT Circle Line. It is more than 100,000 square metres in area and the Urban Redevelopment Authority required that we design it to safeguard future development. It was constructed below a deck, three hectares in area, to provide opportunities for property developments up to nine storeys high.
