Thameslink: Borough Market

Infrastructure advisers to masterplanners and consortium of Borough Market stakeholders. We were commissioned by the London Borough of Southwark, English Heritage & the Borough Market Trustees to assess the impact of a major railway project on this historic area of central London.

Grieg & Stephenson were appointed by The Trustees of the Borough Market to masterplan the regeneration of this historic area. The earlier wholesale market has been revitalised, with the addition of new specialist food retailers, stallholders, cafes and bars. We advised on the consequences for the area of proposed structures associated with the Thameslink railway project, including a new bridge.

Our scope included an independent review of the viaduct design and an assessment of the impact on existing properties. We also undertook feasibility studies of options for new commercial developments to replace buildings altered or removed by new railway infrastructure.
